Tom Charles Marsh was born in Bottisham 15th August 1919, son of Charles and Alice Maud MARSH (née GIBSON)
In the 1939 register his parents were at Lode Road, Bottisham, father Charles [3-11-1887] a farm labourer, mother Alice M [20-3-1879]. There is one closed record. |

The 4th Battalion, Suffolks arrived on the SS Wakefield just as the causeway was blown between Malaya and Singapore. Singapore was under siege and the
battalion found themselves in old tents in a rubber plantation. They were ordered to defend the Golf Course which was bombed directly it went dark. Then they were
ordered to retreat to the outskirts of Singapore but just as they arrived at their destination on the 15th February 1942, General Percival surrendered,
just 18 days after the Wakefield had docked at Singapore.
Tom was captured on the day of the surrender. Currently it is not known at which camp on the Burma -Siam railway Tom died, most of the information on his Japanese PoW card is in Japanese.
